“One Night Only!”

We’ve Only Just Begun

3 May

It’s already very intense – everyone needs to be extremely familiar with their lines, and their songs (including the harmonies!), and their cues, and guess what, it’s only Day 2 of rehearsals! We have about 8 weeks left of rehearsals, every weekday from 10am to 6pm. It’s only gonna get more intense but the show is definitely gonna be a smash hit in Malaysia!

Here’s how hard the cast have been working:

It’s only the second rehearsal, and Joy is stressed! We’ll keep you posted on what happens after 3 weeks!

So, the guys think that the staircase is a better place to rehearse. But they sounded good!

Elvira and Dina, both playing Effie White.

Nicole-Ann Thomas working hard to make sure the show goes well!

Babes Conde conducting the vocal rehearsals.

Elvira, Joy, Ruzana, Nadrah, and Samantha (from R-L).

And look what the cast found (and rescued!) – the Dream Cat!

Finally, We Have Your Attention!

29 Apr

After months of auditions in Selangor and Kota Kinabalu, we finally made our official announcement of who will be featured in our production of Dreamgirls: The Broadway Musical Sensation. The Press ConferenceĀ  was held on 19 April 2011 at Impiana KLCC Hotel. And boy (or should we say, girl) was it a huge sensation. Members of the press and media crowded Oswego Bar & Lounge where we had the Press Conference, and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. Who wouldn’t, anyway, with the amazing talents all gathered in one room, and great food and drinks to keep you company.

We were honored to have En. Juhari Shaarani from Istana Budaya, and also Dato’ Norliza Rofli from Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN) to grace the Press Conference.

And of course, our beautiful Dreamgirls were there to impress the crowd with some songs from the musical. Indeed, it was a stunning performance, and everyone, seriously everyone, was amazed at the little performance we put up. Imagine what the real show will be like!

Spotted in the crowd was also another popular figure: Stephen Rahman-Hughes, who is standing next to Dato’ Norliza Rofli in the picture below.

And the members of the press had a great time speaking to our cast about their expectations of the show. In fact, the whole event did not end until about 6.30pm, because everyone stayed on to mingle and chit-chat, and of course enjoyed the food and drinks provided for free. But what is most important is that the Press Conference was an excellent start and a great way to kick off Dreamgirls here in Malaysia. And by the way, did you know that Malaysia is the second country to produce Dreamgirls outside of the US? Earlier this year, South Africa also produced Dreamgirls. We ought to be proud of ourselves. Because, seriously, Dreamgirls is no easy musical to be in!
